IFATCA lauds Pakistan’s air traffic controllers amid regional airspace challenges

The International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations (IFATCA) has acknowledged the vital contribution of Air Traffic Controllers (ATCOs) of Pakistan amid evolving geopolitical developments impacting regional airspace.

In a press release, IFATCA Executive Vice President for the Asia Pacific region, Cheryl Chen, expressed sincere appreciation for the dedication and professionalism, saying that Pakistan’s strategic position as a key corridor between Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe resulted in a significant increase in air traffic, including the diversion of flights from neighbouring airspace.

“Under these circumstances, ATCOs have managed substantial volumes of non-scheduled traffic, with traffic levels in certain sectors increasing considerably, while maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency,” she said.

Chen further said that IFATCA understands that these operations were conducted under sustained pressure, possibly with extended duties and limited leave, “reflecting a strong commitment to operational continuity and global aviation safety”.

In light of these exceptional efforts, IFATCA respectfully acknowledges the vital contribution of “Pakistan’s air traffic control workforce and expresses its appreciation for the continued support of your Ministry in enabling their important work”.

Since February, global air travel remains severely disrupted after the war in Iran forced the closure of key Middle Eastern hubs, including Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi, stranding tens of thousands of passengers.
