KARACHI: President of the United Business Group (UBG) and former President of FPCCI, Zubair Tufail, stated that bringing the United States and Iran to the negotiating table after achieving a ceasefire is a major success, made possible through the efforts of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
He said that due to Pakistan’s efforts, Iran and the United States came to the negotiating table after more than 40 years. Although the talks were not successful and no agreement was reached, both sides did not refuse future dialogue, which indicates that further negotiations are possible.
Zubair Tufail added that both American and Iranian delegations agreed to continue negotiations, and after consulting their respective leaderships, another meeting is expected soon with Pakistan’s support. It was also agreed to maintain direct contact to extend the ceasefire. The delegations returned to their countries with hope that, through Pakistan’s mediation and continued engagement, a diplomatic solution to the conflict can be achieved.
He also noted that Pakistan’s positive efforts have been widely acknowledged globally.
He emphasized that it is not in the interest of either country for war to resume. He remarked that President Trump’s statements are merely pressure tactics to get his demands accepted.
Zubair Tufail further said that Pakistan will continue to play its mediatory role in the future. The country’s effective diplomacy and use of its relationships have created a positive outlook. After the inconclusive first round of talks held in Pakistan, Islamabad has intensified diplomatic efforts to bring both sides back to the table.
He concluded by saying that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is a source of pride for the entire Muslim Ummah, and the nation is proud of him. He added that the credit for defeating India goes to both political and military leadership, with General Asim Munir playing a key role. According to him, Asim Munir is not only leading globally but also bringing recognition to the country.
