Sharjeel praises civilian-military leadership for facilitating US-Iran talks

KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that the importance of Pakistan and its green passport has been made clear to the whole world through a major event held in Islamabad. He congratulated the President of Pakistan, the Prime Minister, and the Field Marshal, and said that this success demonstrates Pakistan’s superiority and India’s failure at the global diplomatic level, while India is facing a strong reaction to this situation. He added that Pakistan is the only Islamic nuclear power in the world and has also achieved success through the “war of truth,” due to which the Indian media is under pressure.

Addressing an important press conference at the Directorate of Social and Electronic Media Karachi, Sindh Senior Minister and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon said that an important meeting was held under the chairmanship of President Asif Ali Zardari, in which all four Chief Ministers participated. He said that the history of the PPP reflects that it has always worked for a better future for the people. Important data has been collected through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), on the basis of which a large-scale housing project is being launched, under which houses are being provided to 2.1 million families.

In addition, the Sindh government has introduced the Benazir Hari Card, while BISP maintains comprehensive data on people living below the poverty line. He said that due to various reasons, wheat cultivation had been decreasing, so the Sindh government announced the provision of DAP and urea sacks to farmers to encourage wheat cultivation. Medicines were also provided to farmers for wheat crops affected by the rains, and this year’s wheat production has been declared a bumper crop. As a result, there is now an abundance of wheat.

At present, wheat harvesting has begun, and the Sindh government has provided Rs1,500 per acre to more than 300,000 small farmers. Sindh is the only government that has provided direct financial assistance to farmers.

In the transport sector, the Sindh government is providing subsidies to passengers in both government and private transport so that fares do not increase and the public does not face difficulties. Around 6.5 million people in Sindh use motorcycles, and the government has started providing Rs2,000 per person to motorcycle riders. Funds are being distributed through Sindh Bank, while data collection is ongoing as people continue to register. The procedure for applying will be published in newspapers.

He further said that in the transport sector, subsidies are being provided to both inter-city and intra-city transport. The distribution of pink scooters has started in Karachi, and training programmes for girls have been launched across Sindh. Girls in Sukkur and Hyderabad have completed scooter riding training and have also obtained licenses. The distribution of pink scooters will soon begin in Sukkur and Hyderabad. New routes of the People’s Bus Service will also be launched soon, including routes from Shikarpur to Sukkur, Khairpur, and Hyderabad, so that people can enjoy maximum convenience.

He said that the Pakistan People’s Party government in Sindh prioritizes all sectors and works to resolve their problems on a priority basis. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and President Asif Ali Zardari have clearly directed that efforts should be made to provide relief to the people in every sector. Significant progress is being made in the health sector.

Talking about health, he said that polio is a dangerous disease that can only be prevented through timely vaccination, which is why a comprehensive awareness campaign has been launched. He urged the public to take this campaign beyond their homes and spread it through social media, friends, and relatives so that every child can be protected. He added that PPP governments have always prioritized public health projects and that further steps are being taken to eradicate polio.

In response to a question, he said that the recent situation has proven to be a major test for India, and it is going backward in the diplomatic field, while Pakistan is strengthening its positive role at the global level. He said that Pakistan is strengthening its foreign relations and improving in the security sector, due to which it is emerging as a strong and respected country. Pakistan desires peace and is globally recognized as a peace-loving state that seeks stability in the region.

In response to another question, he said that the Federation, Sindh, and Punjab are working together to effectively promote Pakistan’s narrative, and the Sindh government’s first project, “Mera Lyari,” will be presented at the London Festival.

In response to another question, he said that fluctuations in oil prices are a reality of the global market, and the government makes decisions keeping in mind the international situation. He said that countries like Pakistan depend on imported oil, so the public should also act responsibly with an understanding of the global situation.

In response to another question, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that fares will not be increased under any circumstances. Transporters and their associations are in contact with the government, and unjustified fare increases will not be allowed. He said that instructions have been issued to Deputy Commissioners and Commissioners to ensure the implementation of fixed rates. Providing relief to the public is the government’s top priority, and no compromise will be made on this.
