ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed his country’s steadfast support for Saudi Arabia following attacks on the kingdom’s Al Jubeil oil facility.
In a telephone call with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Sharif condemned the attacks and assured the Saudi leadership that Pakistan would continue to stand “shoulder to shoulder” with its ally, just as Saudi Arabia had historically supported Pakistan, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Sharif praised the Saudi leadership for exercising “maximum restraint” during the crisis and highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to support regional peace initiatives in collaboration with other nations.
He briefed the Crown Prince on Pakistan’s latest mediation efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The prime minister also conveyed warm regards to King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, custodian of the two holy mosques.
Crown Prince Mohammed expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region, the statement said.
Both leaders discussed the ongoing hostilities and reaffirmed the importance of close cooperation between their countries amid the crisis.
The attack on the Al Jubeil oil facility comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, underscoring the vulnerability of critical energy infrastructure in the region.
Saudi Arabia, a key US ally and leading oil exporter, has faced several attacks on its energy installations in recent years, prompting heightened security measures.
In a post on X, Sharif stated that he “spoke with his dear brother, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, expressed Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with the Kingdom.”
“I strongly condemned today’s attack on the Al Jubeil oil facility, and emphasised that Pakistan stands shoulder to shoulder with its Saudi brothers and sisters.”
“Appreciated the Kingdom’s restraint under the wise and sagacious leadership of the Crown Prince and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing peace efforts for de-escalation in the region,” he wrote.
