The management of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to end all discounts amid rising oil prices in the international market.

The development came during a high-level meeting held on Monday, the national carrier said in an official statement.

“In a high-level meeting, a plan has been prepared to deal with the continuously rising prices and potential losses,” read the statement, adding that PIA has taken a policy decision to end all discounts.

“Only children and infants will continue to receive concessions,” it said.

The national carrier has also suspended its Beijing and Kuala Lumpur operations from 11 April and 14 April, respectively.

AirAsia X committed to opening Bahrain hub despite Middle East conflict

“Flights to Gulf countries, except the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, are also being suspended till the end of April,” it added.

PIA shared that the UAE air operation is being limited to 16 flights per week.

PIA management said that the decision was taken following an increase in the price of jet fuel.

“The entire burden of fuel price increases cannot be passed on to passengers; some tough administrative decisions have been taken,” said the PIA spokesman.

“It is hoped that international prices will soon return to normal levels, after which all affected routes will be restored,” added the official.

The announcement comes amid US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, which disrupted aviation across the Middle East, with many airlines cancelling routes to avoid airspace in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz, which carries oil and petroleum products from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, remains largely closed due to Iranian attacks on shipping after the war began on February 28.
