RAWALPINDI: Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Barrister Gohar Khan, on Tuesday said that PTI lawmakers withdrew from the National Assembly and Senate standing committees on the instructions of the party’s founding chairman, Imran Khan, who will decide their future participation in meetings of these parliamentary bodies.

Speaking to reporters on Adiala Road, as Tuesday is a designated day for meetings with Imran Khan’s family and legal team, Barrister Gohar said the party was not currently considering returning to the committees. “The decision to quit the committees was made by Imran Khan, and only he can decide about rejoining them,” he said.

He said “the opposition leader in the National Assembly, Mehmood Khan Achakzai, is returning today, and we have a parliamentary committee meeting on Wednesday.”

Gohar said “his party will address all matters in the parliamentary party session.”

Barrister Gohar stressed that political issues should be resolved through political means, but some parties are unwilling to do so.

Like the previous weeks, Khan sisters, including Aleema Khan, Dr Uzma Khan, and Noreen Khan, and party leaders, including PTI Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja, Special Assistant to the KP Chief Minister Shafi Jan, and workers, staged a sit-in at Factory Naka near Adiala Jail after they were stopped from moving forward towards Adiala Jail.

The PTI workers chanted slogans against the government and demanded Imran Khan’s release.

Barrister Gohar said those who are preventing meetings with Khan and his wife are disregarding the public’s sentiments. “Earlier, meetings with Khan were restricted, and now even meetings with BushraBibi have also been blocked,” he said.

Bashir’s Bibi, who is also facing eye-related health concerns, has been denied family visits for the past four weeks. “We do not want tension or anarchy in the country. What is happening is a major misfortune for the nation,” he stated.

Barrister Gohar also revealed that his WhatsApp account was hacked earlier today at 11 a.m., which he reported to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). He said unauthorized messages have been sent from his account, and he has issued statements on X and Facebook. “We are concerned about the founder and his wife,” he emphasized.

He further highlighted the ongoing delays in the judicial process, stating, “Even after 14 months, there has been no decision on the suspension of the founder’s sentences. The court has now said that the main appeals will determine the outcome.”

“By closing the doors of justice, you will not stop people from coming to the streets,” he warned.

Shafi Jan said that 272 registration camps are being set up across the province to register workers for Imran Khan’s release movement.

He stated that once the target of registering 100,000 workers in Rawalpindi is achieved, an oath-taking ceremony will be held. He added that camps will be established in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Wednesday and a digital dashboard will also be launched.

Shafi Jan said that through the digital dashboard, workers from all provinces will be able to register. He emphasized that the force being formed is non-political and its sole purpose is to secure the release of the party’s founder.
