KARACHI: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has warned of potential damage to weak structures from thunderstorms and rain across Karachi Division and several other districts of Sindh on Saturday, as a westerly wave continues to affect most parts of the country.

The PDMA, citing the Pakistan Meteorological Department, cautioned on Friday that windstorms, hailstorms and lightning could damage weak structures, including electric poles, billboards and solar panels, during the forecast period.

Lightning strikes may occur at isolated locations, while hailstorms and windstorms could also damage standing crops. Farmers have been advised to manage their crops in accordance with prevailing weather conditions.

The authority has asked all concerned deputy commissioners, district disaster management authorities and relevant stakeholders to take all necessary mitigation measures in light of the forecast.

According to the Met department’s weather outlook issued on March 27, thunderstorm and rain of light to moderate intensity is expected in Jamshoro, Dadu, Kambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Sukkur, Ghotki, Badin, Umerkot and Tharparkar districts, as well, as Karachi Division, on Saturday.

Saturday is expected to be partly cloudy with chances of isolated wind-driven thunderstorms and rain. Maximum temperatures are forecast between 31 and 33 degrees Celsius. Morning humidity is projected to reach between 75 and 85 percent, easing to between 55 and 65 percent by evening.

Sunday is forecast to be mostly cloudy with maximum temperatures between 30 and 32 degrees Celsius. Morning humidity is expected to ease further to between 65 and 75 percent at evening between 45 and 55 percent.
