Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif briefed his Malaysian counterpart, Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, on the latest diplomatic efforts, including his discussions with leaders of Gulf countries and Iran, to bring the US and Iran to the negotiating table.
During their call on Thursday, PM Shehbaz conveyed his deep appreciation to the Malaysian PM for his strong message of support for Pakistan’s leadership and endorsement of Pakistan-led mediation efforts to end the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East.
According to a statement, PM Ibrahim appreciated PM Shehbaz for his leadership, and also apprised him of his own conversations with various world leaders, wherein he had also emphasised the immediate need to end the Middle East war.
“He offered Malaysia’s full support to Pakistan’s peace efforts,” the Prime Minister’s Office said.
The PM thanked the Malaysian premier and assured him that Pakistan would continue its sincere and genuine efforts in de-escalating the prevailing situation in the region.
Both leaders agreed to remain in touch, added the PMO.
Earlier, the PM met Jiang Zaidong, the Ambassador of China and highlighted Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting de-escalation and regional stability.
Moreover, Pakistan had also reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the escalating Middle East and Persian Gulf crisis through diplomacy.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), spokesperson Tahir Andrabi responded to media queries suggesting that Pakistan could emerge as one of the primary sites for negotiations aimed at de-escalating the regional crisis.
The spokesperson emphasised that Pakistan’s approach remains rooted in its “longstanding policy” of seeking peaceful resolutions to international conflicts.
He highlighted that Islamabad continues to advocate for diplomatic engagement as the only viable path to stability in the region.
