HYDERABAD: Senior Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, held a detailed conversation with media representatives after offering Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at Rawal House Rahoki, Tando Jam. During his exclusive interaction, he discussed national and foreign affairs, public relief measures, development projects, and the current administrative situation.
He began his address by extending Eid greetings to Pakistan and the wider Muslim world. On this occasion, he emphasised the need for unity within the Ummah, setting aside political and ideological differences. The minister stated that the day of Eid carries a message of solidarity and that all Muslim nations must move forward together to effectively confront the challenges facing the Muslim world.
In his remarks, the senior minister adopted a firm stance on national security, asserting that the current Afghan regime made attempts to harm Pakistan, to which the Pakistan armed forces are responding with full force. He made it clear that just as India was given a befitting response, any power that looks at Pakistan with ill intent will face a similar fate. He further stated that Pakistan’s defense has been rendered impregnable due to the leadership of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the sacrifices of the people. He added that it is a special blessing of Allah Almighty that Pakistan is the sole nuclear power in the Islamic world, for which the nation remains grateful.
Highlighting the current situation in Sindh, Sharjeel Inam Memon said the province is progressing across all sectors. He stated that the provincial government, led by the Pakistan Peoples Party, is striving to provide relief to the public. The policy of austerity is being implemented, with unnecessary expenditures being curtailed. He cautioned that if the situation does not improve, stricter measures could be adopted in the future.
Regarding lockdowns, he clarified that there is no lockdown situation at present, but the government is operating under a smart policy to address various challenges.
Speaking on the administrative affairs of Karachi, the senior minister praised the performance of the mayor of Karachi. He noted that Karachi is a large city in terms of population, and its issues are being addressed on a priority basis. He remarked that Karachi bears the burden of the entire country, as the majority of imports come through the city. He expressed confidence that the party leadership fully trusts the development work being carried out in Karachi.
He described the recent meeting between Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and President Asif Ali Zardari as a positive development, which will help resolve the city’s issues.
On the subject of dilapidated buildings, he stated that the administration is actively working, and wherever such structures are identified, they are being evacuated.
Commenting on the recent rains, he clarified that the damage was not caused by the rain itself but by strong winds, expressing regret over the losses. Discussing the impact of rising petrol prices, he acknowledged that it leads to an increase in the prices of essential commodities; however, he reiterated the PPP’s commitment to providing relief to the public.
The senior minister stated that during the tenure of the Pakistan Peoples Party, there were no political prisoners, as the party does not believe in retaliatory actions. He announced that additional buses will be brought to Hyderabad soon after Eid, along with the introduction of pink scooters.
