MOSCOW: The Russian rouble weakened past 80 against the US dollar for the first time since January 9 despite the higher global price of oil and an easing of US energy sanctions on Russia, LSEG data showed on Friday.

The rouble has been mostly weakening since the Finance Ministry announced a pause in its forex operations for the fiscal reserve fund in the coming month on March 4.
