FAISALABAD: Focus of zakat and pro-poor policies should be to equip marginalised youth with technical and vocational skills enabling them to get rid of the vicious circle of poverty instead of promoting beggary, said Engr Asim Munir, Vice President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI).

Talking to Divisional Zakat Officer Muhammad Afzal Saleem and District Zakat Officer Muhammad Habib in his office, he said that Zakat and Ushr department is extending sustenance to the hundreds of needy widows, old and crippled persons. He said that no doubt they need regular financial help but a major chunk of the zakat fund may also be earmarked for the technical education of youth belonging to poor families.

He appreciated the digitalisation of the collection and distribution of zakat and said that it has preserved the self respect of the poor who directly receive the charity in their official accounts or wallets. He demanded that the business community of the area may also be included in the concerned zakat committee for the identification of needy persons. He assured that the message of Zakat and Ushr department would be uploaded on FCCI website motivating the business community to donate maximum zakat in this fund. Later he also decorated zakat officers with collar pins to mark the 50 Years Golden Jubilee Celebrations of FCCI.
