LAHORE: The Pakistan Mercantile Exchange (PMEX) is rapidly evolving into a regulated, transparent, secure and attractive trading platform where exporters, importers and farmers alike can benefit.

Speaking at an Iftar dinner hosted at a local hotel in Lahore, Managing Director and CEO of PMEX, Khurram Zafar, invited participants to explore trading opportunities on the exchange. He said PMEX offers an excellent platform for trading gold, rice, wheat and other agricultural commodities, adding that the exchange is witnessing strong and consistent growth.

Sharing key statistics, he revealed that trading volume on the PMEX platform reached Rs930 billion last year. During the current fiscal year, trading activity has already reached Rs850 billion by February, reflecting a 55 percent growth compared to Rs540 billion recorded during the same period last year.

Expressing optimism about future performance, he said the exchange expects total trading volume to reach Rs1 trillion by the end of the current fiscal year.

Khurram Zafar further noted that the total number of accounts opened on the platform has reached 64,000 while 6,000 new accounts were opened last year. Approximately 10,400 new accounts have been registered so far this year, marking a 73 percent increase, he pointed out.

About the number of commodities, the PMEX CEO said as of now, out of total 70 listed commodities, 22 are being actively traded from this platform, but the number is expected to gradually rise further.
