PESHAWAR: Seven people including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), a Sub-Inspector and two other cops were martyred after armed assailants opened fire on a police vehicle on Shakardarra Road in Kohat on Tuesday.

According to police, the attack targeted the DSP of Lachi, Asad Mahmood, whose vehicle came under heavy firing near Shakardarra Road. The attackers also set the police mobile van on fire.

Those martyred in the attack include DSP Lachi Asad Mahmood, Sub-Inspector Investigation Anar Gul, Reader to DSP Wahab Ali, and DSP gunman Mudassir. FC personnel Syed Aamir Abbas also embraced martyrdom, while two others identified as Yousaf Khan and Samiullah were also killed in the incident.

The injured include Aqab Hussain (FC), Muhib-ur-Rehman (FC) and a civilian Zahoor Khan who were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. According to initial reports, the police team was on routine patrol when unknown armed men ambushed them.

Following the attack, police and district administration cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Police sources said the attackers managed to flee, and efforts were underway to trace and arrest them.

District police officials strongly condemned the attack and vowed that those involved would be brought to justice. The families of the martyred personnel have been contacted, and relief measures are being initiated.

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi ohas strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a police mobile on Shakardara Road in Kohat, which resulted in the martyrdom of a DSP and two other police personnel.

The Governor paid glowing tribute to DSP Waheed Mehmood and two other police officials who embraced martyrdom in the line of duty. He prayed for the elevation of ranks of the martyrs and expressed patience and fortitude for the bereaved families. The Governor extended heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of the martyrs and expressed best wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured police personnel.
