KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has directed Deputy Commissioners to ensure that the Commissioner Ramzan counters set up at super stores all over the city provide quality food at official prices with sufficient stock available.
Seventy one counters have been established on the directives of the Commissioner Karachi to facilitate the citizens to buy food items at the official prices.
The Commissioner has also directed the city administration to continue the crackdown on overpricing.
According to the Commissioner Office’s report, during the crackdown on the fifth day of Ramadan 240 profiteers were fined of Rs 21, 74,000, while the auction of food at official prices was carried out at 126 locations. The Assistant Commissioners visited 1,116 locations to check the prices.
On the fifth day of Ramadan 2748.5 Kg of commodities worth Rs1,146,895 were auctioned by Price Magistrates on 126 occasions in Karachi Division.
The Commissioner office has also issued the details of action taken against Commissioner Karachi directed Deputy Commissioners to personally oversee Commissioner Counters at Super Stores and Assistant Commissioners to inspect markets and Super Stores in their areas.
They must check prices, quality, and availability of Ramadan essentials, and ensure official rate lists are displayed.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioners have informed the Commissioner that 71 superstores have set up Commissioner Counters, offering grocery items at official rates.
