Prices of essential kitchen items remain firm in Peshawar
PESHAWAR: Prices of daily important kitchen, including cooking oil/ghee, sugar, flour, live chicken/meat, except vegetables and others remained firm in the retail market.
A one kilogramme live chicken/meat was being sold at Rs 345 per kilogramme in the retail market, according to a weekly-survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday.
The survey added a dozen of farm eggs were available at Rs 420 against the price of Rs 360 in the previous week as compared to preceding week.
According to the survey, there is no change in price of meat and mutton beef, as cow meat without bone was available at Rs1350 against the price of Rs1100 and cow meat with bone is being sold at Rs1500 per kilogramme against the official rates announced by local authorities concerned, according to the survey.
The price of mutton beef was being sold from Rs 2500 to Rs 3000 per kg in the open market, the survey added.
Buyers are consistently complaining over unchecked profiteering and hoarding and urged the government to take serious notice against traders and shopkeepers, fleecing consumers with artificial rates.
Price of cooking oil and ghee were remained unchanged in retail and wholesale markets, the survey said.
Buyers during the survey blamed the shopkeepers for having increased prices before the advent of the Ramazan while there was no proper display of official price-list and uncheck on artificial rates, hoarding and profiteering by the authorities concerned.
A one kilogramme sugar was being sold at Rs 170 per kilogramme, the survey said.
According to the survey, flour prices remain firm, as no significant increase or decrease was witnessed in the retail as well as wholesale market.
A 20-kg bag was being sold at Rs 2900-3000 while 80-kg bag was being sold at Rs 12,500 and Rs 13000 in wholesale market, the survey said.
However, it was noticed that prices of wheat flour and other products like maida, soji and choker flour are still on the rise in the retail market.
Vegetable prices also rallied in the open market ahead of Ramazan.
A one kilogramme tomato is being sold at Rs 140 against the price of Rs 70-80 per kilogramme in the previous week as compared to preceding week whereas a one-kilogramme onion was being sold at Rs120 against the price Rs 90 per kg in previous week as compared to the preceding week in the retail market whereas ginger was available at Rs 600 and garlic was at Rs300-400/kg in the retail market, the survey added.
The survey noted green chili was being sold at Rs 100 per kg, the survey said. Lemon is being sold at Rs 120 per kilogramme in the retail market, the survey said.
Peas was being sold at Rs 120-150 per kg against the price of Rs 100 per kilogramme, capsicum at Rs 120 against the price of Rs 100 per kilogramme, lady finger at Rs 200-300 per kilogramme, Arvi at Rs 150-200 per kilogramme against the price of Rs 120 per kilogramme, turnip at Rs 100 per kilogramme against the price of Rs 70 per kilogramme, Eggplant (bringle) at Rs 100 per kilogramme, Zucchini (tori) at Rs 120-150 per kilogramme, Tenda Rs 100 per kilogramme against the price of Rs 80 per kilogramme, cabbage at Rs 120 per kilogramme, red-colored potatoes available at Rs 70 per kilogramme while white-coloured potatoes are sold at Rs 50 per kilogramme in the retail market, the survey said.
Buyers have complained that prices of food grains, especially those which were daily use items in the kitchen, were beyond their purchasing power.
The soaring prices continue to break the back of the common man, they said.
Prices of pulses remained unchanged in the retail market, according to the survey.
The survey said good quality (sela) was available at Rs 360 per kilogramme, while low quality rice was available at Rs 300-320 per kilogramme, while toota rice was available at Rs 200-220 per kilogramme.
Similarly, the survey furthermore said dal mash was available at Rs 480, dal masoor at Rs 320 per kilogramme, dal chilka (black) at Rs 320 per kilogramme, dal chilka (green) at Rs 260 per kilogramme, moonge at Rs 400 per kilogramme, dhoti dal at Rs 400 per kilogramme, dal Channa at Rs 450 per kilogramme, red bean at Rs 440 per kilogramme, Gram flour (baisen) at Rs 420 per kilogramme against Rs 280 per kilogramme, big-size white Channa at Rs 380 per kilogramme, small-size white channa from Rs 360 per kilogramme.
Fruits, which are staple, but prices, are sky-rocketed in the local market, according to the survey.
Apple was available at Rs 400-500 per kilogramme, banana at Rs 200 and Rs 250 per dozen, Guava at Rs 300 per kilogramme. Orange was available at Rs 300 per dozen.
