ISLAMABAD: An inter-provincial meeting presided over by Federal Minister for Water Resources, Mian Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, unanimously condemned India’s unilateral move to hold the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) in abeyance, declaring that the action has no legal basis.
The meeting was convened by the Ministry of Water Resources on the directive of the Prime Minister of Pakistan to review both short and long-term water availability on the western rivers in the wake of what were described as Indian violations of the Indus Waters Treaty. The session was chaired by the Federal Minister for Water Resources and attended by Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Faisal Mumtaz Rathore; Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Yar Muhammad; Punjab Irrigation Minister Kazim Ali Peerzada, Sindh Minister for Irrigation and Planning & Development Jam Khan Shoro, Balochistan Minister for Planning and Development Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, Secretary Irrigation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (representing the Chief Minister KP), and senior officials from the federal and provincial governments.
