ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday said the world is changing fast due to political shifts, new security threats, and cyber challenges, and stressed that Pakistan is ready to work with all countries to promote peace and sustainable development.
The President was speaking during an interactive session with participants of the 6th International Workshop for Leadership and Stability 2026 and congratulated them at the end of the workshop. About 100 participants attended, including 69 from 49 different countries.
President Zardari said leadership and stability are the foundations of strong nations and institutions and noted that the world is facing rapid change because of new security risks and the growing role of technology in governance.
“Security is no longer limited to traditional wars. It now includes cyber threats, hybrid challenges, and misinformation. Climate change, shortage of resources, and false information cross borders and require joint efforts,” he said.
President Zardari urged participants to turn discussions into practical solutions and choose cooperation over conflict.
He praised National Defence University for organising the forum and said such events bring together policymakers, diplomats, military officers, academics, and private sector leaders. He said that these platforms provide valuable opportunities to discuss leadership and stability and hoped the ideas shared would benefit institutions and society.
The president thanked the organisers and participants and expressed hope that the discussions would lead to lasting cooperation.
Answering questions, he said Pakistan was working closely with regional countries and was ready to strengthen cooperation in technology and workforce development. He emphasised improving relations with Serbia and called for stronger ties between think tanks, industries, and academic institutions of both nations.
In response to another question, he said global cooperation was unavoidable as countries face shared challenges.
President Zardari said the 18th Constitutional Amendment aimed to secure a sustainable future by respecting public ownership of national decisions and resources.
“Pakistan believes every country has its national interests, but we do not support wars. We encourage dialogue to resolve issues. Our region is sensitive, but I remain hopeful peace will prevail,” he said.
He said that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) followed the vision of Benazir Bhutto to promote women’s leadership and empowerment.
He paid tribute to Benazir Bhutto for her struggle for democracy and recalled his commitment to serving the people, strengthening democracy, and empowering women.
Earlier, Director General of the Institute for Strategic Studies, Research and Analysis (ISSRA), Major General Muhammad Raza Aizad, thanked the president for hosting the participants at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
