ISLAMABAD: Aimed at effectively dealing with potential terrorist threats, Islamabad Police on Thursday further intensified security across the federal capital, with special focus on sensitive installations.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, a senior police official said. During the meeting, the IGP emphasized the importance of enhanced intelligence-sharing among Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) as a cornerstone of an effective counter-terrorism strategy. He directed the police officials to ensure the timely dissemination of intelligence information and strengthen inter-agency coordination.

The IGP instructed zonal Superintendents of Police (SPs) to speed up search and combing operations aimed at curbing crime. He also called for prompt investigation of serious cases, timely submission of challans, and decisive action against proclaimed offenders and habitual criminals.

Additionally, he ordered an indiscriminate crackdown on extremist elements and stressed the need to ensure foolproof security at sensitive sites, including places of worship.

The meeting included a detailed review of existing security arrangements in the city. The IGP directed all senior officers to utilize available resources to further enhance and solidify security measures in the capital.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Muhammad Jawad Tariq, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Operations Shoaib Masood, AIG Special Branch Muhammad Sarfraz Virk, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Arsalan Shahzeb, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Hamzah Humayun, zonal SPs, and other senior officials.

Separately, the IGP held a meeting with the CTO and the Safe City IT team to review efforts to modernize digital services in line with contemporary requirements and expand online facilities through mobile applications.

He was briefed on traffic management, the e-challan system, licensing services, and other online platforms. The IGP directed that all digital services of Islamabad Police — particularly those related to traffic operations — be upgraded to ensure effective, transparent, and citizen-friendly service delivery.

He stressed the use of modern technology to promptly address public concerns and enable citizens to access traffic, driving license, and related services from home.

During the meeting, the SP Rural Zone also briefed participants on the crime situation and performance within their respective jurisdictions.
