Consensus to be evolved to elect Senate chairman: Qayyum

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Lt. Gen (Retd) Abdul Qayyum Saturday advised all the political parties to evolve consensus to elect the best candidate for chairman Senate.
Talking to a private news channel, he expressed hope that Senate chairman would work for supremacy of Parliament and further strengthening the democracy.
He said former Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif had asserted that if Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) would nominate Raza Rabbani as a candidate for Senate chairman then we would support him.
Raza Rabbani was a competent candidate for chairman, who had strengthened democracy and ensured supremacy of law, he added.
Abdul Qayyum said PML-N had many competent persons including Senator Raja Zafarul Haq, Minister for Port and Shipping Mir Hasil Bazenjo and others.
