ISLAMABAD: Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived on Tuesday on a two-day visit aimed squarely at ramping up bilateral ties with Pakistan, focusing on trade, regional connectivity, and diplomacy.

Tokayev was warmly received at Nur Khan Airbase by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, joined by a full contingent of senior cabinet ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

As Tokayev disembarked, he was greeted by both Zardari and Sharif, who welcomed him with warm embraces, while children in traditional dress presented him with flowers. A ceremonial 21-gun salute added further pomp to the welcome.

In a show of solidarity, children waved flags of both countries, as Tokayev acknowledged their gesture with a wave of his own.

The two-day visit is seen as a critical opportunity to deepen cooperation on key areas like trade, logistics, and regional security.

Tokayev is also set to address the Pakistan-Kazakhstan Business Forum, aiming to carve out new economic avenues and capitalise on untapped potential.

With both nations keen to boost their influence on the global stage, discussions will likely touch on closer coordination in regional and international forums.

This visit marks a turning point in transforming historical ties into actionable, practical collaboration.

The stakes are high, as Pakistan and Kazakhstan seek to forge a stronger, more dynamic partnership, with an eye on promoting peace and stability in the wider region.
