ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Tuesday appointed Dr Usman Anwar, a BPS-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), as the new Director General (DG) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
The late-night notification, issued by the Establishment Division, confirmed the transfer of Dr Anwar from his role as Inspector General of Police (IGP) in Punjab to the helm of the FIA – a position that comes with enormous responsibility and high-stakes challenges.
Dr Anwar, whose career has been marked by controversial yet strategic roles within the country’s law enforcement framework, now finds himself at the centre of the FIA’s often contentious operations.
Known for his firm hand in both provincial and federal policing, his appointment signals the government’s preference for someone with firsthand experience in high-pressure situations, whether dealing with corruption probes or counterterrorism efforts.
