ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges on Tuesday unanimously approved amendments to Rule 209 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Senate, 2012, after receiving a no-objection from the relevant ministry.
The meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges, chaired by Syed Waqar Mehdi, also reviewed the implementation of its earlier recommendations regarding FIRs lodged against students of Quaid-e-Azam University. The Vice Chancellor informed the Committee that applications seeking withdrawal of the FIRs have been filed and are under process. After deliberations, the Chairman directed the SP City, Islamabad, to ensure the FIRs are quashed through the appropriate legal forum.
The Committee further took up the missing file case related to House No. 622, I-10/4, in light of the report of the Senate Functional Committee on Government Assurances. As the matter is sub judice, the agenda was deferred.
Separately, the Committee expressed displeasure over the absence of Abdul Aleem Khan, Federal Minister for Communications, against whom a privilege motion had been moved. On the mover’s suggestion and due to the Minister’s absence, the Chairman deferred the agenda item.
