ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) informed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday that it had achieved a historic Rs6.213 trillion in recoveries during 2025. NAB Chairman Lt Gen Nazir Ahmad Butt (retd) presented the bureau’s annual report to the prime minister, highlighting key accomplishments in the agency’s efforts to curb corruption and promote accountability.
According to Butt, NAB successfully recovered nearly 3 million acres of state and forest land, valued at approximately Rs5.99 trillion. This recovery, he added, was a crucial component of NAB’s anti-encroachment drive.
In addition, Butt said that NAB facilitated the return of Rs180 billion to over 115,000 victims of fraudulent housing and investment schemes, addressing widespread public grievances and helping to restore confidence in the financial sector.
Butt also highlighted NAB’s initiatives aimed at improving public accessibility and engagement, including “open court” and “central complaint cell” programmes, which he said had helped resolve numerous cases without resorting to force or intimidation.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said that Prime Minister Sharif reviewed NAB’s performance, and commended the agency for its transformation into a more technology-driven organisation.
He specifically praised NAB’s integration of modern technologies, such as AI-assisted investigations and the establishment of an e-office framework, which aligns with the government’s broader goals of transparency and fiscal discipline.
Sharif reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring NAB’s professional independence and expressed full support for its continued efforts to protect Pakistan’s national resources.
