A senior member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that no dialogue can be held with the government until it allows meetings with jailed party founder Imran Khan. Barrister Ali Zafar has reportedly made this remark alongside a delegation of Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) in Lahore, which is on a three-day visit to the Punjab capital as part of opposition’s protest drive.
In my view, the point raised by the PTI leader has some merit, even if it is not entirely perfect or fully agreed with. The government must acknowledge the fact that there is some truth to it without fully endorsing it. Or, at least, it is worth considering or discussing further. One cannot lose sight of the fact that the need for political stability cannot be overemphasize.
Apparently, the entire country desperately needs resumption of a dialogue between opposition and the government. Needless to say, the government has the authority or power and coolness to defuse political tension by immediately taking into consideration PTI’s demand in relation to meetings with Imran Khan.
