KARACHI: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Sindh has foiled a major terror plot in Karachi following an intelligence-based operation, leading to the arrest of suspected militants linked to a banned outfit, officials said.

According to a CTD spokesperson, the operation was conducted on the basis of credible intelligence, during which two suspected terrorists were arrested. The arrested men were reportedly planning large-scale terrorist activities in the city, targeting sensitive installations.

During the raid, law enforcement agencies recovered a significant cache of arms and explosives, including around 30 hand grenades, five automatic weapons, approximately 2,000 rounds of ammunition, suicide jackets, and other explosive material. Authorities said the recovered material indicated preparations for high-impact attacks.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were receiving foreign funding and were in contact with handlers linked to a terrorist network operating across different regions. The CTD said the suspects had allegedly been trained to carry out coordinated attacks in Karachi.

The arrested militants have been shifted to an undisclosed location for further interrogation. Meanwhile, security across the city has been placed on high alert, and efforts are underway to track down other members of the network.

The CTD spokesperson identified the arrested suspects as Ziyadanuz Khan, son of Ghulam Nabi; Imran Khan, son of Muhammad Ali; and Ghulam Rasool alias Abu Waqqas. Officials claimed the suspects had links with the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and were involved in multiple acts of terrorism.

Further investigations are in progress, and additional arrests are expected, the CTD added.
