LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has termed its procurement process for AMI single-phase meters transparent, stating that the initiative has resulted in savings of billions of rupees for the national exchequer.
According to details released by LESCO management, the company successfully broke long-standing cartelisation among AMI meter manufacturers and secured the lowest-ever rate through transparent and competitive bidding under Tender No. 4212. The contract was awarded to M/s AMI Associates at a unit price of Rs 14,786. In comparison, earlier procurements recorded significantly higher prices, including International at Rs 16,200, FESCO at Rs 16,279, MEPCO at Rs 19,000, GEPCO at Rs 19,500, and LESCO PMU at Rs 19,070.
In a subsequent tender (No. 4281), the price further declined to Rs 12,900 per meter, leading to substantial financial savings for the public treasury, the statement added.
Objections raised by M/s PEL and M/s Microtec were reviewed and rejected by the Grievance Redressal Committee (GRC) and the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), which upheld the evaluation process as compliant with tender documents and procurement rules.
LESCO management claimed that the award was made strictly on merit, ensuring value for money, enhanced competition, and long-term financial benefits.
