ISLAMABAD: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), on Friday strongly rejected allegations from the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) that he had made repeated attempts to engage the government in dialogue.
The accusations, made by PML-N leader Ikhtiyar Wali, claimed that Gohar had sought talks on three separate occasions within a brief span of just ten days to address the ongoing political issues involving PTI.
In a robust denial, Gohar categorically rejected the claims, insisting that there had been no communication with the government, particularly with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, either in the past ten days or throughout the entire year.
“I have always been a strong advocate for dialogue,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to peaceful political engagement.
He further clarified that the responsibility for initiating any such talks lay with senior leaders of Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aain-e-Pakistan (TTAP), including Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, rather than with him personally.
The PTI chairman made it clear that his party had consistently stated that, should any formal invitation for talks come from the government, they would not hesitate to make it public.
“Dialogue is not something to be taken lightly,” he stressed. “It is a matter of utmost importance and should be approached with seriousness and respect. We must avoid careless discussions, as they could only serve to worsen the situation.”
