LAHORE: The 36th session of the Punjab Assembly commenced with a two-hour delay under the chairmanship of Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, during which important resolutions and draft bills were debated and discussed.

In the session, a tribute resolution regarding Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s appointment as Chief of the Defence Forces was passed by a majority vote from government members.

This resolution was presented in the house by Malik Ahmad Saeed Khan, while government members supported the resolution and also endorsed the recent press conference of the Director General Inter-Services Public Relations. The text of the resolution clearly stated that criticizing the armed forces and the commander-in-chief is tantamount to advancing the enemy’s narrative and doing so is against national interests.

Addressing the session, Provincial Information Minister Uzma Bukhari sharply criticized the opposition, stating that if the opposition has their own mothers and sisters, do others not have mothers and sisters? She inquired about who actually handles the Twitter account of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Uzma Bukhari further stated that the PTI founder himself says that he is distressed and mentally unwell, so what can we do about that? She alleged that these people want to drag the military into politics while we are against it. Uzma Bukhari said that these are the same people who dishonor the public and have the audacity to point fingers at the country’s nuclear system.

During the Punjab Assembly session, three ordinances and two draft bills were presented, which were referred to the relevant legislative committees for further consideration for a period of two months. These included a total of five bills, including the Provincial Motor Vehicle Ordinance 2025 and the Kite Flying Regulation Ordinance 2025 Bill, which were handed over to the committee for detailed review. Additionally, nine draft bills were approved by a majority vote in the house, among which the Draft Law for Amendment to Emergency Services Punjab 2025 and the Draft Law for Repeal of Regularization of Service Punjab 2025 were prominently included.

After the completion of the agenda, Deputy Speaker Zaheer Iqbal Channar announced the adjournment of the session until eleven o’clock on Tuesday morning. During the session, government members expressed complete solidarity with the armed forces and their leadership, demonstrated their full confidence in national security and defence matters, and reiterated their resolve that they will stand firm for the country’s defence and stability under all circumstances.
