Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said on Friday that a creeping internal national security threat was emanating from a delusional mindset in society—one that considered personal self-interest superior to the country.

Addressing a press conference at the GHQ Headquarters Rawalpindi, DG ISPR Chaudhry said the narrative he pushed had become a national security threat.

Pointing towards Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan, the Pakistan Army spokesperson stated that the one individual whose desires were greater than the state of Pakistan, he believed that “If I am not in the power, then it is dictatorship.”

“We are the armed forces of Pakistan, we don’t represent any ethnicity, religious perspective, region or political party,” he said, setting the record straight in response to the online propaganda.

The military’s spokesperson said the security forces personnel did not die on daily basis for any other thing than the country itself.

“We need to communicate it clearly that we will not allow a wedge to be driven between the army and the people. You can have a constructive criticism but keep your politics away from the armed forces,” he said.

He highlighted that the armed forces included people from every language and every region, and its personnel were sacrificing their lives for the beloved country.

According to the spokesperson, the purpose of everyone, from a soldier to a field marshal, was common, and the armed forces respected all political parties and personalities.

Lt Gen Chaudhry stated that the armed forces stood against the Hindutva ideology. He said every country had an army, and that army was for the enemy. “You can certainly fool some people sometime, but you cannot fool the entire nation all the time.”

The Pakistan Army spokesperson stated that when someone met with this individual, they talked against the state. He said that he talks against the state and institutions. He questioned where the constitution permits speaking against institutions, noting that the Constitution allows for freedom of expression.

The DG ISPR said speaking against the security of the state cannot be allowed. He questioned who this person is that creates a narrative against the institutions. He recalled that this person first suggested stopping remittances so that Pakistan would default. He also said he urged people not to pay electricity bills and called for civil disobedience. He has continuously incited people to target the military leadership.

Imran Khan ‘well but under mental torture’, says Uzma Khan

He emphasised that this Army defended the homeland in the Ma’raka-e-Haq (battle for justice) and serves as a shield against the Khawarij (terrorists).

He stated that social media accounts from Afghanistan and India promote the anti-national narrative. The original narrative is given by a “mental patient.” “This statement is then spread through RAW (Indian intelligence) accounts. Unnamed and troll accounts amplify this narrative,” he said.

He recalled that people were incited to attack the jail in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He pointed out that Indian media is happily speaking against the army chief, noting the importance of every minute of media coverage. He questioned why Indian media gives hours of coverage while Afghan social media and facilitators of the Khawarij contribute to this narrative. He said that within minutes, this narrative reaches the global media.

Lt Gen Chaudhry said that the goal of this “mental patient” and India is the same.

He stated that this “mental patient” instigated the attack on the military on May 9, where symbols of 1965, the Chagai memorial, and the martyrs’ monuments were set on fire.

The military spokesperson said this person believes that if he is in power, it is democracy, and if he is not in power, it is dictatorship. He concluded that the time for his political showmanship is over.

Ministry notifies Field Marshal Asim Munir as Pakistan’s first chief of defence forces

The DG ISPR stated that this person says that anyone from his party who went to the NDU (National Defence University) is a traitor. He pointed out that by the same logic, he is essentially saying that anyone who goes to the ISPR is a traitor, implying that he believes anyone in the Pakistan Army is a traitor.

Responding to a query if a blanket ban would be applied to Imran’s meetings, he said it was up to the government to decide this.

Propaganda on CDF notification

The military’s spokesperson said that propaganda was carried out over the chief of defence forces (CDF) notification, and there was a flood of lies regarding this notification. He questioned, “Is this freedom of expression? What kind of politics is this?”

Lieutenant General Chaudhry asked, “You have the government of one province; why don’t you talk about that? Pakistan has so many issues, why don’t you talk about them? We are repeatedly saying: keep us out of politics.”

He asked why their focus was stuck on the army. He asserted that their narrative had become a national security issue, noting that fake appointments and transfers circulated on social media, and fake notifications were frequently run on social media.

The DG ISPR stated that the narrative of holding talks with the Khawarij (terrorists) was repeated, and demands were made to give them “space.” He questioned: “Can the security of the state be compromised? Will Kabul and Delhi guarantee Pakistan’s security?”

He recalled the attack on Cadet College Wana and claimed that if this individual were in charge, he would have called for talks. He said this person argued against military operations, advocating for dialogue instead. He reminded that they once suggested opening an office for the Khawarij in Peshawar. He stated that defence required standing firmly against the enemy, yet propaganda was spread against those who stood up against terrorism.

The Pakistan Army spokesperson said that these people chanted the slogan, “Behind the terrorism is the uniform.” He questioned what had been accomplished in the province where they had been in power for 12 years: “What work has been done for health, education, and public welfare?”
