ISLAMABAD: Iran has fulfilled its responsibilities under a gas pipeline agreement with Pakistan, with the pipeline completed up to the border, but obstacles have delayed gas supply to Pakistan, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani said on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference, Larijani said that if there had been no hindrances, Pakistani households would already be using Iranian gas. He expressed optimism that the gas pipeline issue could be resolved soon.
“The pipeline is ready up to the border, and if there were no disruptions, Pakistani citizens would be benefiting from Iranian gas today,”he said, adding that he hoped for a swift resolution.

Larijani, who is on an official visit to Pakistan, also offered Iran’s support in resolving the ongoing issues between Pakistan and Afghanistan, emphasizing that Tehran is ready to cooperate at Pakistan’s request.
“Pakistan stood by Iran in difficult times, and we deeply value the cooperation of both the Pakistani government and its people,” he added.
The Iranian official expressed concern over the differences between Pakistan and Afghanistan, calling it a significant challenge for regional stability.
He said that Iran is committed to exploring all avenues to address these issues and reiterated Iran’s commitment to working closely with Pakistan.
Larijani also discussed the situation in Gaza and Iran’s position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, emphasizing that the Palestinian people should have the right to choose their own government through free elections.
He rejected US proposals for the region, saying they offered temporary solutions that often exacerbated underlying issues.
On the broader security situation in the region, Larijani underscored the importance of countering terrorism, which he described as a major challenge to regional peace and stability.
He commended Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism, noting that both countries are committed to joint action against terrorist groups.
“Pakistan has established effective mechanisms to combat terrorist groups, and Iran stands firmly with Pakistan in this shared effort,”he added.
The Iranian official also addressed Pakistan’s role in facilitating peace talks between Iran and the United States, calling Pakistan’s role in mediation “positive” and expressing Iran’s readiness to engage in constructive dialogue.
“Any positive and constructive mediation effort by Pakistan is welcomed by Iran. Our bilateral cooperation is moving in the right direction, and both our nations are united in the fight against terrorism,” he concluded.
