LAHORE: The Punjab Bar Council has welcomed the 27th amendment, saying the establishment of a constitutional court has long been a legitimate and longstanding demand of the citizens of Pakistan.
In a joint statement, Punjab Bar Council Vice Chairman Ashfaq Kahoot and its executive committee’s chairman Zabiullah Nagra expressed their satisfaction over the establishment of the Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) and expected that it would enhance constitutional governance and strengthen the overall justice system.
It observed that the parliament is fully empowered and within its constitutional mandate to pass all necessary amendments for the welfare, stability, and betterment of the country.
The statement asserted that the passage of the 27th amendment reflects the parliament’s commitment to judicial reforms and to address the constitutional matters efficiently and without a delay.
It added that the creation of the constitutional court would be beneficial for all citizens of Pakistan, as it will streamline constitutional adjudication, reduce the burden on existing courts, and promote timely justice in matters of national importance.
The statement made it clear that if any person or group attempts to create hurdles, mislead the public, or initiate false propaganda against the constitutional amendment for political motives, the Punjab Bar Council would take appropriate legal action to uphold constitutional integrity.
