LAHORE: A delegation of Sikh Yatrees from the United Kingdom and Canada visited Poonch House and the Bhagat Singh Gallery on Saturday.
They were received by officials of the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) and were briefed on the historical significance of the landmark building, originally constructed in 1849 and fully restored under the ‘Magnificent Punjab’ vision of the Chief Minister of Punjab.
During a briefing session, the delegation viewed a documentary highlighting the meticulous restoration, the cultural importance of the site, and the heroic struggle of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. The Sikh yatrees later toured the restored structure and the Bhagat Singh Gallery, which narrates the final days of his 1931 trial. They were also guided through the replica courtroom representing the original trial proceedings.
The TDCP guides briefed them in detail on Bhagat Singh’s personal belongings, revolutionary journey, imprisonment, and court case.
The delegation admired the direction and commitment of Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb for ensuring the preservation of Punjab’s heritage and establishing an informative gallery and courtroom that vividly honour the legacy of a global freedom icon who resisted British colonial rule. The visitors also took keen interest in souvenirs provided by Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) and purchased memorabilia showcasing Bhagat Singh and Poonch House.
