ISLAMABAD: Reduction in the prices of vegetables resulted in a 0.59 percent decrease in the Sensitive Price Index-based inflation for the week ended on November 06.

A major decrease has been observed in the prices of tomatoes, which went down by 37.93 percent, onions by 4.88 percent, garlic by 3.23 percent, pulse gram by 1.58 percent, chicken by 0.68 percent, sugar by 0.64 percent, gur by 0.60 percent, pulse masoor by 0.55percent,and LPG by 0.15 percent.

On the other hand, a major increase is observed in the prices of eggs, which went up by 2.40 percent, bananas by 2.32 percent, firewood by 1.61 percent, diesel by 1.12 percent, beef by 0.93 percent, tea prepared by 0.92 percent, petrol by 0.91 percent, bread by 0.55 percent, wheat flour by 0.34 percent, powdered milk by 0.31percent, and cooking oil (5-litre bottle)by 0.21 percent.

Weekly SPI rises 0.12pc

During the week, of 51 items, the prices of 18 (35.29 percent) items witnessed an increase, 12 (23.53percent) items showed a decrease, and 21 (41.18percent) items remained stable.

The year-on-year trend depicts an increase of 4.18 percent. Major increase is observed in the prices of ladies sandal which showed an hike of 55.62 percent, sugar 43.67percent, gas charges for the first quarter 29.85 percent, wheat flour 19.50 percent, gur 18.88percent, firewood 14.25percent, beef 14.09percent, vegetable ghee 2.5 kg 11.53 percent, onions 11.22percent,vegetable ghee 1 kg 9.79percent and diesel 9.29 percent.

A downward trend is observed in the prices of garlic, which showed a reduction of 33.54percent, pulse gram 29.82percent, electricity charges for the first quarter 26.26percent, potatoes 22.32 percent, tomatoes 19.69percent, tea Lipton 17.79 percent, pulse mash 15.52 percent, chicken 15.16 percent, LPG 9.14percent and pulse masoor 4.95 percent.

For households spending up to Rs17,732 per month, the SPI-based inflation decreased by 1.04 percent, down to 327.73 from 331.18 points.

For the Rs17,732-22,888 bracket, the SPI-based inflation declined by 0.93 percent to 325.20, from 328.25 points of the previous week.

Those in the Rs22,889-29,517 expenditure group saw a 0.74 percent decrease to 347.95 from 350.55 points. The SPI forRs29,518 to 44,175 bracket registered a decrease of 0.66 percent, down to 335.00 compared to 337.23 points previously.

For households with monthly expenditures above Rs 44,175, the SPI recorded a 0.08 percent decline to 331.58 from 333.04 points. Whereas the combined expenditure SPI decreased by 0.59 percent to 333.55 points compared to 335.53 points of the previous week.
