KARACHI: Monument commemorating the friendship between Pakistan and Romania will be built in the city, which will be named after Pakistan's national poet Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Romania's great poet Mihai Eminescu.
The monument will symbolize the cultural ties between Romania and Pakistan, incorporating architectural elements from both countries.
This was decided during an informal meeting between Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi and Romania's Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Dan Stoenescu, on Thursday here at the Commissioner's office.
They discussed matters of mutual interest, emphasizing the need to explore opportunities for exchange programs and learning from each other in various fields.
The Ambassador said the monument would be a tribute to the literary legacies of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal and Mihai Eminescu. It will attract the people of Pakistan.
Commissioner Naqvi said Karachi is Pakistan's largest city, with rich cultural and historical heritage. It is known for its diverse culture, languages, hospitality and generosity. He highlighted the city's vibrant life, historical sites, and beautiful beaches, making it an attractive destination for tourists worldwide.
The Romanian Ambassador to Pakistan expressed interest in promoting Romania's cultural and educational involvement in Karachi, promoting cultural activities, education, and contributing to the city's development. He mentioned that Romania's universities offer ample opportunities for Pakistani students and they do meet modern educational standards.
