ISLAMABAD: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday said that no fresh arrest warrants have been issued for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) provincial president Junaid Akbar.
PTI’s counsel, Fateh Ullah Burki, quoted ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra as saying during Friday’s proceedings that the court had not issued any new warrants against the two leaders.
According to the court record, the warrants in question were originally issued in 2024 in connection with case number 1032 registered at the Kohsar police station. Of the 195 individuals nominated in the case, 105 have been arrested.
Burki said both Afridi and Junaid Akbar had previously obtained bail in the same case, and their bail orders had been duly submitted to the concerned police station. He termed the recent attempt to execute the warrants “illegal” and based on “outdated” court orders.
Despite the bail, a team from the Secretariat Police reportedly visited Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House on November 6 to enforce the warrants. Sources said the police presented the documents to the KP House administration, which informed them that Chief Minister Afridi was not present at the premises.
