COLOMBO: Sri Lankan benchmark stock index CSE All Share ended Friday’s session 1.2 percent higher, lifted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s growth-focussed comments as he tabled the national budget.
Dissanayake said Sri Lanka has a 7 percent growth target in the medium term as the island nation continues to align with a USD2.9 billion International Monetary Fund program.
The CSE All Share closed the session at 23,389.12. Dairy products maker Kotmale Holdings and consumer lender Senkadagala Finance were the top two percentage gainers on the index, each rising roughly 25 percent on the day.
Dissanayake swept to power late last year on a pledge to end corruption and stabilise the economy after a record dollar shortage triggered a financial meltdown in 2022.
