MANILA: The Philippines will suspend rice imports for 60 days from September 1, the communications minister said on Wednesday.
Communications Secretary Dave Gomez said in an interview that Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr said the suspension was aimed at protecting local farmers.
Gomez added Marcos also said it was not yet time to discuss increasing tariff rates on rice imports.
