Special court resumes treason trial against Pervez Musharraf

After a gap of nine months, a special court resumed on Thursday the treason case against former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf.
The case has been resumed by a three-member bench, headed by Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Yahya Afridi including Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Yawar Ali and Balochistan High Court (BHC) Justice Tahira Safdar, local media reported.
The bench is hearing the case of imposition of extra-constitutional emergency by Musharraf in 2007. Akram Sheikh is appearing as prosecutor in the case.
Musharraf, who is currently in Dubai, had earlier requested the special court to provide him army's protection during his appearance for the treason trial and also the assurance that he would safely be returned to Dubai.
Back in 2014, Musharraf was indicted by the special court when he appeared and rejected all charges against him. He then left the country in 2016 for medical treatment, after the Supreme Court removed his name from the Exit Control List.
