KPK to issue more driving licences to transgender persons

After issuing driving licences to 15 transgender persons, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP) has said that the rest of the applications will be processed soon.
The driving licenses were distributed at a ceremony held in Peshawar, where SSP Traffic Yasir Khan Afridi handed over the licences. The SSP said that 300 applicants had applied, of which 15 were given the driving licences.
On receiving the first driving licence, transgender persons association president Farzana said this development will help transgenders to earn a respectable livelihood. She added that her community members were searching alternative professions as they were fed up of dancing.
The move by the KP government comes after NADRA’s initiative in 2012 to provide three gender categories for the transgender community on the registration form computerized national identity cards.
