ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), on Thursday, issued a directive to all satellite TV channels regarding the use of uniforms of state institutions and law enforcement agencies in satire and comedy shows.

This decision comes in response to complaints received by PEMRA and the Council of Complaints, as well as concerns raised on digital media platforms.

The PEMRA observed that several satellite TV channels have been portraying characters in police uniforms in a derogatory manner during their satire and comedy shows.

This portrayal is considered to compromise the dignity of the uniform and negatively impact the public's perception of law enforcement agencies.

In the directive, PEMRA ordered all satellite TV channels to immediately cease using uniforms of state institutions and law enforcement agencies in their satire and comedy shows.

The regulatory body emphasised that the depiction of such characters and the use of related content is not acceptable, as it affects the dignity and image of state institutions.

PEMRA has warned that any violation of this directive will result in legal action under the relevant sections of the PEMRA Ordinance. This directive aims to uphold the respect and honour associated with uniforms of state institutions and law enforcement agencies.

The notice was issued with the approval of the Chairman of PEMRA, Muhammad Tahir, and has been circulated to relevant authorities for enforcement.
