The Supreme Court (SC) adjourned on Tuesday contempt of court case against Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and also granted him exemption from appearing at the next hearing on March 8.

Once the hearing resumed, Chaudhy's lawyer Kamran Murtaza requested the three- member bench to provide a copy of the CD in which Chaudhry had made contemptuous remarks against the judiciary. The bench replied that a transcript of the speech had already been provided. The lawyer replied that there could be tempering in the record, local media reported.

The bench allowed the lawyer the copy of the CD and directed the additional attorney general to provide him with the material. The bench also granted exemption to Chaudhry from appearance at the next hearing as he had an other commitment.

SC issues show cause notice to Talal Chaudhry in contempt case

During the last hearing on February 26, Chaudhry had informed the court that his lawyer Murtaza had not been able to come as he was on official leave. The SC had adjourned the hearing to March 6 (today).

On February 2, the SC had issued a notice to Chaudhry for delivering disrespectful remarks against the judiciary and had summoned him to court. However, Chaudhry had denied and said “I neither made person specific discussion nor criticize judges during public meeting or media talks.”
