ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said May 9 was a planned move to revolt against Pakistan as well as its institutions and wondered why the miscreants were not brought to justice despite the lapse of one year.

Speaking at the special meeting of the Federal Cabinet on Thursday, the prime minister said May 9 was a revolt against Pakistan and the state institutions and was an insult to the heroes.

He said that the riots have also taken place in the United States, Britain, whether it was 2007 or 2021 but the perpetrators were punished under the law.

The premier said the special meeting of the cabinet has been convened to convey a message to the families of the martyrs that the nation would remember them and their families forever.

He said those who have been planners and instigated the people continue to deny and try to put a veil on what happened on May 9.

He said not a single example of such incident could be traced during the historical struggle of Quaid-e-Azam for Pakistan and Quaid-e-Azam’s movement, his leadership is above all these things and he is an example to the entire nation.

Shehbaz said not even a single instance of this kind could be found in the history of Pakistan after independence even though politicians have made sacrifices and endured prisons.

He said the whole nation saw the heart-wrenching scenes of the May 9 incident, but till today those who incited their supporters to revolt through a planned campaign are distorting these facts through lies. He said even the enemy did not have the courage to think of such a move, adding that he thinks it is certain today that it was a systematic planned rebellion.

The prime minister said today the social media is being used from outside Pakistan to spread poisonous propaganda against the institutions of the country and added that letters were written to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and posters were burned so as to economically harm the country.

Shehbaz Sharif said that I think that the real purpose of May 9 was very sinister design against democracy in Pakistan, the constitution and to establish dictatorship of one person but the plan was foiled.

The premier said May 9 was also a conspiracy against the armed forces and the Chief of Army Staff.

He further stated the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government would steer the country out of the economic crisis as work on economic improvement has already started in the past two months.
