ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has directed the relevant ministries on Tuesday to prepare and submit a comprehensive plan for the uninterrupted supply of fertiliser for the Rabi crop.

A day after the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet allowed the import of 200,000 metric tons of urea fertiliser for Rabi crop on a summary moved by the Ministry of Industries and Production, the caretaker prime minister held a review meeting.

On Monday, the ECC after a detailed discussion approved the Ministry of Industries and Production’s summary for immediate import of urea fertilisers.

Rabi Season 2023-24: Wheat yield target set at 32.2m tons

The ECC meeting also decided that the uninterrupted supply of gas for the fertiliser industry to be ensured. It was also decided that the provinces would be asked to act more proactively to bear the importation cost.

On Tuesday, the caretaker prime minister held a review meeting on the supply of urea for the Rabi crop.

Kakar directed that adequate and timely arrangement of fertiliser buffer stock should also be made and the district administration should keep a close watch on the prices of fertilisers.

The review meeting was also informed about the recent production and expected demand of fertiliser in the country besides the decisions taken by the ECC to ensure adequate supply of fertiliser for the Rabi season.

The caretaker prime minister directed the relevant ministries to prepare and submit a comprehensive action plan for the uninterrupted supply of fertiliser for the Rabi crop.

The meeting was informed in detail about the prices of raw materials for fertiliser production, the current price of fertiliser, the supply of gas to fertiliser factories and demand. Kakar was informed about the current price of fertiliser as well as the supply of gas to fertiliser factories and the demand for the Rabi crop.

The meeting was attended by the caretaker federal ministers, Gohar Ejaz, Kausar Abdullah Malik, Muhammad Ali, Adviser to Prime Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, and relevant senior officials.

Caretakers look forward to good rabi season And the entire country is looking forward to the departure of caretakers and their sponsors...and to fair elections...an engineered rigging will lead to a very ugly civil war.

Dream on. The statement should have said that ''we have controlled the prices of fertilizers, pesticides, fuel, farm equipment and ensured quality seeds availability''. It's a tragedy that despite red flags being raised on the inability of farmers to cultivate due to the high cost of production and water scarcity for irrigation, the government is sitting on its hands.

Look at the standard of governance by the Prime Minister of a nuclear country talking of fertilisers as if there was nothing important to talk of.

Mr. PM. Please first address the current issues of cotton farmers before prospecting about Rabi crop. Govt fixed phutti support price Rs. 8500/40 kg but at the moment either there is no buyer in the market or offering as low as Rs. 5000/40 . Please do something before farmers get desperated. Regards
