ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Sami Saeed said that there is a need to enhance the trade volume and cooperation in energy and economic sectors between Pakistan and Iran.
Saeed and newly-appointed Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri-Moghaddam discussed various avenues of collaboration between the two nations including bilateral trade, CPEC, and cooperation in energy and economic sectors.
Amiri-Moghaddam called on Saeed at the Ministry of Planning on Wednesday.
Chief Economist Dr Nadeem Javaid, Senior Joint Secretary Muazzam Ali and Chief Foreign Aid Zaroor Khan also attended the meeting. During the meeting, Minister Saeed warmly-welcomed Ambassador Amiri-Moghaddam to Pakistan and extended his felicitation on assuming his responsibilities as the Iranian ambassador to the country.
Saeed emphasized the importance of the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and Iran and reiterated the commitment to further strengthening the ties.
Both sides emphasised on the need to enhance trade and connectivity between the two nations and expressed a mutual desire to boost the trade volume between Pakistan and Iran.
Ambassador Amiri-Moghaddam, during the talks, offered his country’s cooperation in the energy sector, acknowledging need for the energy security for Pakistan.
Saeed appreciated this gesture and expressed his eagerness to explore opportunities for collaboration in this critical area.
