BERLIN: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime must be held accountable for the East Ghouta attacks and humanitarian crisis in the rebel-held enclave, said US President Donald Trump and Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday.
"This applies both to the Assad regime's deployment of chemical weapons and for its attacks against civilians and the blockade of humanitarian support," they said in a telephone conversation, according to a statement released by Merkel's office.
