Darren Sammy wins hearts after one-legged heroics

Peshawar Zalmi skipper Darren Sammy provided the world a glimpse of his fortitude and determination after the former West Indian captain guided his side to victory over the Quetta Gladiators at Sharjah — and doing so in the most entertaining fashion possible.
With Zalmis 125 for 5 down in 19th over needing 17 runs to take them home, walked out captain Sammy, who just hours ago injured his knees while bowling in the first innings, but was determined to rescue his side with a bat and one proper leg.
Sammy was struggling to run, hopping his way between wickets, but that all changed after he hit back-to-back sixes to both Rahat Ali and Anwar Ali and then sealing the deal with a four taking his side to a five wickets victory, with two balls to spare.
Sammy threw his bat in air in celebration and was quickly joined by everyone from the Zalmi dugout, who came charging on to the field to congratulate their skipper.
“I just needed to hit three sixes, that’s what I told the coach,” stated Sammy in the post match presentation, after he was awarded the Man of the Match award for his brilliant innings.
“Even if you hobble it’s OK, just get a six. I just went out there thinking I could hit three sixes and win the match. I backed myself and I did the job that the team needed,” Sammy added.

Playing for Peshawar Zalmi really matters to Darren Sammy. By all accounts he was key to the Zalmi overseas players travelling to Lahore for Final & now he comes out to bat with what looks like a serious injury & scores 16* (4) on one leg to win the match. A true leader. #PSL
