National harmony: sacrilegious US movie hurt ministry's efforts, says Adviser
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interfaith Harmony Dr Paul Bhattai on Saturday condemned the release of a blasphemous film and said that he would move a resolution in the United Nations, seeking world-wide legislation to deter such sacrilegious acts in future.
Talking to media persons, Dr Paul Bahatti appealed the West to take strict measures to stop such acts, saying that they created a rift among adherents of different religions. Creators of this blasphemous movie should be given exemplary punishment, he said, adding that it had triggered violent protests and killings in different countries. He said that the Christian community across the world supported Muslims across the world and condemned the shameful act. He said that all religions taught peace, brotherhood, protection of others' rights and promoted tolerance.
The blasphemous movie, he said, had damaged the efforts of the Ministry of National Harmony that played a leading role in defusing tensions between Muslims and Christians in the wake of Rimsha Masih case. The advisor was accompanied by Naib Khatib of Lal Masjid Amir Siddique, JUI-F's leader Dr Abid Rauf Orakzai.
"We should step up efforts to make world-wide legislation, particularly the UN and Western countries, as this is the need of the hour to avoid the recurrence of such incidents in future," Bhatti said. Naib Khatib Lal Masjid, Amir Siddique urged the government to take legal action against elements who had released the blasphemous film, saying that parliament was the right forum to raise voice on the issue, instead of holding violent protests, leading to destruction of government and private property.
"The world religions should work together to negate the perception that religions created problems across the globe. Muslims clerics played important role in defusing the tension in the Rimsha Masih blasphemy case. They tried that no innocent person should be punished," he added. Dr Abid Rauf Orakzai condemned the release of the anti-Islam movie.
