ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has declared ‘Ghulam Khan’ as a border customs station for handling of International Road Transport operations in Pakistan in line with the TIR Convention 2017.

The FBR issued SRO 1907(I)/2022 to amend SRO 127(1)/2016 here on Monday.

‘Ghulam Khan’ would now become the International Road Transport (TIR) border crossing point in line with the TIR Convention 2017.

Total customs-ports and customs-stations to be border customs stations for handling of TIR functions in Pakistan included Karachi, Gwadar, Taftan, Chaman, Torkham and Sust.

Pakistan became a member of TIR Convention 2017 which has 77 contracting parties including China, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey and all Central Asian Republics (CARs). Chaman, Torkham, Sust and Karachi are already operating as border customs stations for handling of International Road Transport (TIR) operations in Pakistan.

After becoming member, Pakistan notified sea and land border points as TIR crossings, ie, Sust (Khunjerab) with China, Torkham and Chaman with Afghanistan, Taftan with Iran and Gwadar and Karachi are two sea ports.

In December, 2020 Gabd (Pakistan)-Reemdan (Iran) has been upgraded to international border crossing and now passengers/drivers can cross this border with valid visa.
