ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed the concerned to finalise the tight gas policy by the end of next month after reviewing it.
On Thursday, the prime minister chaired a meeting on gas reserves in the country as the country has recently been struggling to maintain gas supply to various sectors, especially power sector and fertiliser.
The meeting was attended by federal ministers, Shaukat Fayyaz Tarin, Hammad Azhar, Asad Umar, Special Assistant Tabish Gohar, and concerned senior officials.
The meeting held detailed discussion on the potential resources of Tight Gas in the country, after it was informed that Pakistan has the potential to have vast reserves of tight-gas, which could help reduce the country’s dependence on imported expensive LNG.
Gas supply to fertiliser plants may be restored from Sept 1
An official said that gas supply issue to the fertiliser plants, especially was echoed in a meeting presided over by the finance minister on couple of day ago on agriculture input as discontinuation of gas supply to the fertiliser plants due to dry docking was feared to affect the urea production for the upcoming season.
Special assistant to prime minister on food security ruled out possibility of urea import and decided ensure gas supply to the fertiliser plants in Punjab from next month maintain adequate stock of urea.
In this background, an official said that the meeting on gas reserves was held on Thursday.
