LAHORE: There is slight surge in coronavirus cases, as Punjab has reported 273 new Covid-19 cases and five additional fatalities, taking its provincial tally of cases to 103,587 and total deaths to 2,347.

With recovery of 26 patients, 97,410 people have so far recovered in the province. On Pakistan basis, with 824 recoveries from coronavirus, the total number of recoveries has reached to 312,638.

During the last 24 hours, 10,371 tests were conducted out of which 273 fresh cases were reported.

As per age distribution of Covid-19 positive cases, out of total Covid-19 cases, 30238 were age group of 31-45 years, 28121 of age group of 16-30 years, 20,707 from age of 46-60 years, 10213 from 61-75 years, 4738 from 1-15 years while rest of 1823 of above 75 years.

Moreover, the coronavirus has started impacting the sports activities, as Punjab Squash Complex was shut down due to Covid-19. An official said the Squash Complex was shut down following an employee tested positive for coronavirus. He said the Squash Complex will remain closed till November 4 as a precautionary measure.

On the other hand, Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department has issued a notification directing that all commercial activities, establishments and areas shall be closed by 10pm except medical stores, petrol pumps, LPG outlets, workshops and spare parts shops.

Moreover, Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid in a meeting with a delegation of the World Health Organization said, “I want to see Punjab Polio free. All teams have been directed to cover all children including guest children. I urge parents to vaccinate their children and fully cooperate with the mobile teams and the visit fixed Centers if somehow teams miss a child.”

WHO Polio Team leader Hamid Jaffery appreciated the unwavering commitment from the highest political offices and the administrative departments.
